An ambitious ultra-deep-water offshore project
An ambitious ultra-deep-water offshore project
Launched in April 2014, Kaombo is the first project on the ultra-deepwater offshore Block 32, located off the Angolan coast. Its estimated 660-million-barrel reserves span a distinct system of reservoirs at water depths reaching 1,950 meters.
At depths of 1,400 to 1,950 meters, the Kaombo project lies in ultra-deep offshore waters. It aims to tap oil deposits spread cross six fields in the southeastern section of Block 32 with 800 square kilometers. Approximately 300 kilometers of subsea pipelines will connect the fields of two FPSO (floating production, storage and offloading) units. For the first time, Total is building the new FPSO’s by converting crude oil carriers instead of ordering new vessels as they have done in the Block 17.
Another defining characteristic of the project is its strong local industrial input. Approximately 14 million hours of work will be performed locally in Angola, an unprecedented figure for a project in this country.
InterOil Angola manages the shore marine support for the Kaombo FPSO project.
